Makurdi: Chief Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Benue, has described Nigeria’s Democracy Day as a symbol of the triumph of the people’s will and resilience in their quest for democratic rule. He expressed these views in his Democracy Day message, which was signed by his media aide, Mr. James Ian, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi. Aondoakaa emphasized that June 12 stands as a historic milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Aondoakaa, a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, stressed that democracy should extend beyond the conduct of periodic elections. He highlighted that it must translate into tangible benefits for citizens through responsible leadership, transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law. He further noted that the true measure of democracy lies in the quality of life enjoyed by the people and urged governments at all levels to prioritize the welfare, security, and economic well-being of citizens.
Aondoakaa called on Benue citizens to remain committed to democratic values and the pursuit of good governance. He expressed concern over challenges facing Benue, such as insecurity, economic hardship, youth unemployment, and declining public confidence in institutions. He noted that addressing these issues requires visionary leadership, sincerity of purpose, and a governance approach focused on the people’s needs.
He maintained that Benue has abundant human and natural resources capable of driving significant development and prosperity if properly harnessed through prudent, inclusive, and people-centred governance. The PDP governorship candidate encouraged Benue residents to remain hopeful and actively participate in democratic processes, assuring them that a brighter future is achievable through collective effort and commitment to democratic ideals.
Aondoakaa reaffirmed his commitment to providing purposeful leadership to restore public trust, strengthen institutions, stimulate economic growth, and ensure the security and well-being of residents across the state. He also urged citizens to continue to support the PDP and its vision for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Benue.
