Abuja: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, emphasized that success in counter-terrorism operations is now determined by joint, multi-agency collaboration rather than single-service efforts. Shaibu made this statement during the opening of the 2026 Simulating Training workshop, organized by the Land Forces Simulation Centre (LFSC) in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the workshop aims to enhance the adaptability and operational readiness of troops. The event, themed ‘Leveraging Joint and Multiagency Capabilities to Strengthen Troops’ Adaptability and Resilience during Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Operations,’ provides a platform for participants to formulate and test operational plans without the typical logistical constraints or fatigue.
Represented by Maj.-Gen. Kennedy Osemwegie, Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Shaibu highlighted the strategic benefits of the workshop, describing it as a technology-driven and cost-effective training asset. He urged participants to actively engage in challenging assumptions and deepening their understanding of intelligence fusion, civil-military cooperation, and inter-agency coordination.
The COAS noted that the workshop aligns with the Nigerian Army’s transformation drive to create a professional and combat-ready force capable of effective joint and multi-agency operations. Shaibu expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support and reaffirmed the Nigerian army’s commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty.
Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Wabili, Director-General of LFSC, remarked on the timeliness of the training workshop given the complex and evolving security threats in the country. He stressed that addressing these threats requires not only tactical proficiency but also strong collaboration among the Armed Forces, security agencies, and other stakeholders.
Wabili also emphasized the necessity for synergy, interoperability, and shared understanding in Nigerian Army-led counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations. He reiterated the centre’s commitment to providing a modern platform for capacity development through simulation-based training, which helps commanders and troops rehearse operational scenarios and enhance decision-making in a controlled yet realistic environment.
