Abuja: The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, has urged Army spokespersons to tackle misinformation and propaganda with professionalism and integrity. Anele issued this call during the closing event of the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR) Combined Third and Fourth Quarters Media Training Seminar 2025, held in Abuja. She highlighted the strategic importance of information management in contemporary warfare, emphasizing the seminar’s aim to enhance collaboration between the military and the media.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the seminar was designed to hone the skills of army public relations officers in strategic communication, crisis response, and conflict-sensitive reporting. These efforts are directed towards countering false narratives and fostering public trust in the armed forces. Anele stressed the critical role of information mastery in today’s complex security landscape, where propaganda and disinformation are potent tools used by adversaries to undermine public trust and the sacrifices of military personnel.
Lt.-Col. Anele emphasized that it is essential for Army public relations officers to lead in crafting accurate narratives that showcase the courage and professionalism of Nigerian soldiers. She acknowledged the Nigerian Army’s commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty under the leadership of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff, and underscored the necessity of a strong media partnership to consolidate operational successes.
She pointed out that the media is a strategic ally in this endeavor, with its reports playing a crucial role in shaping public perception, bolstering resilience, and garnering support for the troops. The acting director praised the dedication of facilitators, participants, and other security agency spokespersons, noting that the seminar strengthened mutual trust and set a new standard for military-media relations.
Anele encouraged attendees to leverage the knowledge gained to effectively counter misinformation, enhance transparency, and highlight the Army’s dedication to peace and professionalism.
