Post: Ayo-Yusuf Seeks Awujale Stool as Call to Service

Lagos: A former Chief Commissioner in the Public Complaints Commission, Mr. Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf, has expressed his intention to ascend the Awujale stool, describing it as a call to service. Ayo-Yusuf articulated his aspirations during an interaction with newsmen in Lagos, emphasizing that his life has been defined by service, discipline, and responsibility as a servant-leader, administrator, and community man.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ayo-Yusuf highlighted his lineage, declaring himself a direct descendant of the Tunwase Royal lineage of the Fusenguwa Ruling House. He underscored that his ancestry is not merely about a bloodline claim but embodies a responsibility to uphold the dignity of the Awujale stool, rooted in tradition, respect for institutions, and honor. Ayo-Yusuf emphasized that rulership is a call to service, not a contest of noise or entitlement, and any edge he possesses stems from years of preparation, tested integrity, emotional maturity, and demonstrated commitment to people.

Ayo-Yusuf noted that the interest of over 100 princes vying for the Awujale position reflects the richness, depth, and strength of the Ijebu royal heritage. He remarked that the stool’s reverence, respect, and relevance are evident, and that tradition, wisdom, and divine guidance will ultimately determine the most suitable candidate for the role, rather than sheer numbers.

He further described traditional rulers as the moral compass, cultural custodians, and stabilizing force within a democracy, and specifically highlighted the Awujale’s role as a symbol of unity above politics. Ayo-Yusuf pointed out that while democracy operates through institutions, tradition governs through trust, values, and continuity.
