Sokoto: The Attahiru Bafarawa Foundation, through its Giving Back Initiative, has awarded scholarships worth N123.7 million to 108 Nursing Science students in Sokoto State. Malam Lawal Maidoki, Chairman of the initiative, presented these awards at separate ceremonies in Sokoto, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to supporting the state’s health sector manpower development.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Maidoki stated that the scholarships were distributed among 55 students studying Nursing and Midwifery Sciences and 53 students enrolled in other health-related courses at Gamji College of Nursing Sciences and Al Hudah College of Health Technology. Specifically, N67.2 million was allocated for students at Gamji College, while N56.5 million was designated for those at Al Hudah College.
Maidoki described this initiative as a vital step in fulfilling the Giving Back Initiative’s commitment to enhancing manpower development in health and other areas of human resource management. He highlighted that the foundation remains focused on its core intervention areas, which include healthcare support, water supply, food distribution, and public empowerment.
Maidoki called upon individuals, groups, and corporate organisations to join in advancing humanitarian efforts. He urged wealthy individuals to emulate the former governor’s philanthropic acts and expressed gratitude to the institutions for providing a 50 percent discount to the initiative.
On behalf of the scholarship beneficiaries, Maidoki expressed appreciation for Bafarawa’s dedication to supporting underprivileged students and wished for divine rewards for his generosity. Alh. Sagir Bafarawa, Secretary of the initiative, announced plans for developmental projects valued at N10 million in each of the state’s 23 local government areas, recognizing the support the founder received during his time as governor.
Alh. Sagir Bafarawa assured that similar engagements are being planned for future implementation by the Giving Back Initiative. Proprietors of the colleges, Kabir Gobir and Hazmat Gwadabawa, expressed their gratitude and reaffirmed their commitment to training skilled health professionals for Sokoto State.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the events included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, scholarship agreement forms, and the presentation of award letters and cheques.
