Abuja: The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) will unveil the National Guidelines for Public Procurement of Food and Related Services on July 13 in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen procurement reforms. This was announced in a statement issued by the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale Adedokun.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adedokun stated that the initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Federal Ministry of Education, and other key stakeholders. He described the guidelines as a landmark framework designed to establish transparent, healthy, and sustainable standards for the procurement of food and related services across public institutions nationwide.
The initiative aims to strengthen public procurement practices, support economic growth, and promote a culture of national wellness through an efficient and sustainable food value chain. Adedokun mentioned that the guidelines would apply to school feeding programs, hospitals, government agencies, correctional facilities, and the hospitality sector, ensuring uniform standards for food procurement and related service delivery.
The framework is expected to stimulate the growth of Nigeria’s agricultural sector by prioritizing locally produced food and supporting farmers through an inclusive, community-based procurement value chain. The official unveiling is scheduled for Monday, July 13, 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Highlights of the event will include a keynote address and the presentation of the guidelines, featuring an overview of the new procurement standards and compliance metrics. Attendance at the unveiling ceremony will be strictly by invitation.
