Abuja: Some residents of Zango and Kogo communities in the Bwari Area Council, FCT, have urged the district administration to expedite the completion of ongoing road construction projects in their areas. These appeals were made during separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Bwari, Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the residents praised the government’s efforts to develop the areas after years of neglect but emphasized that the prompt completion of the roads would facilitate movement and improve livelihoods. Mallam Buhari Aminu, a tailor from the Zango community, expressed concerns about the prolonged construction, which has complicated commuting. He noted that motorists and commercial motorcyclists are spending more time and money navigating alternative routes or unfinished sections of the road, adversely affecting local businesses.
Aminu urged the contractors to accelerate their work and ensure that the roads meet required standards to avoid sudden repairs. He commended the current administration for initiating the project, highlighting that its completion would enhance accessibility, boost economic activities, and improve the quality of life in Zango community.
Mrs. Rita Felix, another resident, emphasized the need for relevant stakeholders to monitor the project closely. She stressed that this oversight is crucial to ensure contractors adhere to timelines and address construction challenges promptly, preventing resident frustration.
Similarly, Mr. Matthew Ikenna, a business owner in Kogo II community, expressed his frustration with the slow progress, which has complicated travel for residents and commuters. Ikenna highlighted the financial burden on motorists due to increased fuel consumption and vehicle repairs from using alternative and often rough routes. He pointed out that poor road conditions affect schoolchildren, workers, and other residents who rely on the route for daily activities.
Ikenna urged for the speedy completion of the road to facilitate transportation and strengthen connections between the community and other district areas. He emphasized the importance of the road as a vital link for residents to the market, Ushafa, the Defence College camp, workplaces, and health facilities.
Council Chairman Mr. Joshua Ishaku reassured residents that his administration is diligently working to address the challenges delaying the road construction. During an inspection of the ongoing asphalt overlay and concrete drainage construction at Zango, Ishaku acknowledged the road’s significance to community development. He assured that efforts are underway to engage relevant authorities and contractors to accelerate work.
Ishaku committed to ongoing project monitoring and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure construction is completed within the agreed timeframe and to the required standards. He appealed for resident patience and cooperation with the contractors, noting that the road’s completion would significantly relieve commuters and residents reliant on these routes for daily activities.
