Freetown: The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the People’s Republic of China have transformed principles into a binding pact with the signing of a development cooperation agreement. The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, moves the bilateral relationship from promise into actionable progress.
According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the signing event marked a shared blueprint for direct impact, focusing on practical projects to uplift Sierra Leonean communities. Officials from both nations gathered in the Ministry’s conference room, demonstrating a collective commitment to translate words into tangible results.
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, outlined the agreement as the culmination of a trusted friendship, highlighting the November 2025 visit of China’s Vice Premier, His Excellency Liu Guozhong, which secured a pivotal pledge of 100 million Chinese Yuan in gratuitous assistance for Sierra Leone’s development. Minister Kabba emphasized that the pledged resources would fuel projects delivering real, visible change for citizens.
His Excellency Zhao Yong, China’s Ambassador to Sierra Leone, echoed this collaborative vision, pointing to a dynamic partnership. Recent joint endeavors with President Bio, including the launch of the Excellence Skills Academy and a key Environmental, Social, and Governance report, showcase a relationship maturing from dialogue to action. Ambassador Zhao explained the agreement’s focus on ‘small yet smart’ projects, designed for immediate, positive community impact, tailored to be effective and responsive to local needs.
Ambassador Zhao affirmed a unified commitment to expedite implementation, expressing readiness to work alongside Sierra Leonean colleagues to ensure momentum in these initiatives.
