Abuja: China has initiated a two-week training program on Broadcasting Convergence and Communication Capacity Building for 28 Nigerian media professionals. According to News Agency of Nigeria, the seminar, which began on September 9 and will conclude on September 22, is sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Research and Training Institute of the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), Beijing.
Participants in the program were selected from key Nigerian media organizations, including the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). Mr. Yang Yong, Deputy Director-General of the International Cooperation Department at NRTA, emphasized that the training underscores the strong relationship between China and Nigeria. The course covers topics ranging from content creation to the application of emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Mrs. Folasade Fatoke, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, highlighted the unique opportunity the training presents for enhancing participants’ skills and understanding of broadcasting convergence and modern information management. She noted that the seminar is particularly timely as Nigeria prepares for its 2027 general elections.
Participants expressed their expectations for the training. Mr. Ekanem Antia from the NBC anticipated acquiring new skills in program production and editing while exploring the relationship between traditional and new media. Mr. Abdullahi Dauda from Click Naija Online Radio, FRCN, aimed to learn from China’s media industry and apply new ideas to podcasts and other content for young Nigerians. Mr. Wale Owoade, a Senior Videographer with NAN, expected to learn new innovations in video editing and scriptwriting. Mrs. Mopelola Oke, Assistant Director of Programs at FRCN, looked forward to experiencing China firsthand and exploring the broadcasting systems of both countries.
