Abuja: An Islamic cleric, Alhaji Tajudeen Taiwo, has urged Muslim faithful to continue donating toward the cause of Allah, emphasizing that charity with sincerity attracts manifold rewards. Taiwo shared this message during the 31st Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja Branch, under the theme ‘Learning the Religion Beyond its Adherents: A Critical Examination of Islamic Teachings Independent of Muslim Practice’.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event gathered eminent personalities, policymakers, and members of the Muslim Ummah, serving as both a reflection and a commitment to faith-driven nation-building. Taiwo emphasized the importance of investing in the hereafter through sustained charitable donations, particularly in mosque building. He described charity as a divine investment guaranteeing eternal reward, citing Quranic injunctions on spending in Allah’s cause.
Taiwo urged Muslims to view the Ansar-ud-Deen’s mosque project as an opportunity to establish a lasting legacy beyond worldly recognition. He encouraged the faithful to differentiate between the perfection of Islam and the shortcomings of its followers. In his discourse, Taiwo highlighted the transient nature of worldly possessions, reminding worshippers of the fleeting nature of life and material wealth. He stressed that true success lies in deeds that endure beyond the grave.
The cleric specifically mentioned the ongoing remodelling project of the Ansar-ud-Deen Mosque in Abuja, urging members and well-wishers to donate generously towards its completion. He explained that contributing to a mosque’s construction is a spiritual investment, declaring, “Whoever builds a house for Allah has secured a house in the hereafter.” He noted that such charity qualifies as Sadaqah Jariyah, a continuous charity with rewards multiplying even after death.
Earlier, Mohammed Olayiwola, the Society’s Branch Chairman, described the lecture’s theme as timely and profound, reiterating Islam’s perfection despite adherents’ occasional falterings. He expressed gratitude to members and donors whose contributions enabled the establishment of a Computer-Based Test Centre within the mosque premises, which hosted examinations for JAMB and other organizations. He appealed for renewed support for the mosque’s expansion and structural upgrade.
Beyond spiritual exhortations, the event provided a platform for civic engagement and national reflection. Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, highlighted the moral essence of Ramadan, describing it as a month promoting perseverance, selflessness, and closeness to Almighty Allah. He noted that acts of charity during Ramadan carry multiplied rewards and urged Muslims to internalize Islam’s ethics beyond rituals.
Speaking on the recent adjustment of the electoral timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the minister commended INEC for its sensitivity by avoiding key activities during Ramadan. He encouraged the Muslim Ummah to reciprocate by exercising their civic rights whenever elections are scheduled. “The adjustment offers an opportunity, not an excuse,” he remarked, urging eligible voters to participate peacefully and responsibly in the democratic process.
Similarly, Dr. Sekinah Oyebamiji, Chairperson of the Day, called on Muslims to take voting seriously, especially with the Osun State governorship election slated for Aug. 8, 2026. She emphasized that civic participation is a fundamental right and responsibility. Oyebamiji added that the holy month should inspire prayers for national peace, credible elections, and good leadership, pledging support for the mosque remodelling project.
