Lagos: Prince ‘Laja Adeoye, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has appealed to aggrieved party leaders to withdraw their court cases and settle disputes internally. Adeoye emphasized the importance of embracing peace and unity ahead of the party’s planned National Convention.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, recently restrained the PDP from holding its planned National Convention scheduled for Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The court ruled that the PDP failed to comply with its constitution and the Electoral Act, particularly by not conducting valid congresses in some states and not providing INEC the mandatory 21-day notice.
Adeoye advised the concerned members who initiated legal actions to consider the Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism outlined in the PDP constitution. He stressed that internal issues should be addressed through dialogue and established party channels rather than prolonged court battles.
‘The PDP has its own constitutional process for conflict resolution, and every loyal member should respect that,’ Adeoye said. He added that the PDP would adhere to any lawful court order and noted that the Supreme Court had already settled the matter of internal disputes within the PDP, affirming the party’s constitutional power to manage its internal affairs independently.
Adeoye expressed confidence that the recent court pronouncement would not hinder the already planned National Convention. He strongly believed that the convention would proceed as scheduled and anticipated the emergence of new national party leadership. The party’s leadership is actively working to resolve outstanding issues before the convention.
Adeoye called on members to prioritize the unity and progress of the PDP above personal ambitions. He stated that now is not the time for division or suspicion, but rather an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen the party’s foundation.
Furthermore, Adeoye mentioned that the party had suspended some officers accused of undermining its progress and advised them to appear before the disciplinary committee to clear their names. He believed that such actions would help restore confidence, discipline, and inclusiveness within the party.
He expressed optimism that the convention would reposition the PDP for greater unity and electoral success.
