Post: Court Remands Man for Allegedly Stabbing His Older Brother Over Land Dispute

Kaduna: A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of 26-year-old Samson Gandu in a correctional facility for allegedly stabbing his older brother following a disagreement over a plot of land. The charges brought against Gandu are for attempted culpable homicide.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel did not take Gandu’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction. As a result, the magistrate instructed the police to forward the case file to the Kaduna Director of Public Prosecutions for further legal advice. The case has been adjourned until June 30 for further mention.

Earlier in the proceedings, Prosecution Counsel Inspector Chidi Leo informed the court that the incident was reported by Janet Dogo at the Gabasawa Police Station in Kaduna on June 14. The prosecutor detailed that Gandu allegedly stabbed his brother, Thomas, in the chest during the altercation.

The charge against Gandu is said to contravene Section 200 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017. This section outlines that the offense could lead to imprisonment for a term that may extend to seven years, a fine, or both.
