Post: Court Remands Two Men Over Alleged Kidnapping in Kaduna

Kaduna: A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of two men, Danladi Usman, 23, and Nasir Ahmed, 26, in a correctional facility over alleged kidnapping. The defendants are facing trial for alleged conspiracy and kidnapping.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, did not take the defendants’ plea as his court lacked jurisdiction. He ordered their remand in the correctional centre and directed the police to return the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. Emmanuel subsequently adjourned the matter until July 26 for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Chidi Leo, informed the court that the defendants conspired with another individual, who is currently at large, to commit the offence of kidnapping. Leo stated that on May 24, at about 6:30 p.m., the defendants kidnapped two children from their parent’s house at Millennium City Kaduna with the intention of collecting ransom.

He further explained that neighbors alerted the police to the defendants’ activities, leading to their arrest and the rescue of the abducted children. The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Section 247 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2020 (as amended), which stipulates the death penalty if found guilty.
