Kaduna: The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-D7G (DICON-D7G) has successfully assembled approximately 1,000 units of the upgraded ‘DG-103’ rifle within just two months of commencing operations in Kaduna.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the DG-103 is a locally licensed version of the Russian Kalashnikov AK-103 assault rifle, adapted for the 7.62x39mm M43 cartridge. The announcement was made by Mr. Osman Chennar, the Chief Executive Officer of DICON-D7G, during a briefing at the company’s headquarters in Abuja. The briefing was delivered on Chennar’s behalf by retired Maj.-Gen. Mainasara Masanawa, the Director of Land Systems, Innovation, Research and Development at DICON-D7G.
Chennar described the production of the DG-103 as a significant advancement in Nigeria’s renewed push for local arms manufacturing. He confirmed that all rifles in the first batch had undergone rigorous testing and certification, meeting the operational standards of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies. In addition to rifles, the company is also producing drones and anti-drone systems with early-warning capabilities to assist frontline troops.
With full operations now underway, DICON-D7G aims to produce 60 million rounds of ammunition annually, underscoring its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence capabilities. Chennar also revealed plans for the acquisition of a military jetty in Lagos by February 2026. This facility will include a production line, warehouses, and accommodation for personnel, significantly enhancing local production capacity and opening opportunities for exporting defence equipment to neighboring African countries.
He noted that these milestones are just the beginning of broader efforts to increase self-reliance and improve national security readiness. Plans are also in place to establish a shipyard at the jetty for the servicing and maintenance of naval vessels. DICON-D7G is a key player in the defence industrialisation component of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
