Gusau: The Secretary to the Zamfara Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Nakwada, announced that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) aims to enlist 400,000 additional members through its ongoing e-membership registration initiative. He encouraged residents of Zamfara to seize this opportunity and actively participate in the e-registration process.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nakwada issued a statement through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Sulaiman Tudu, emphasizing the significance of Governor Lawal’s defection to the APC as a promising development for the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections. The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Governor Lawal, represented by his deputy Malam Mani Mummuni, publicly declared his switch from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Gusau, following extensive stakeholders’ consultations.
Nakwada outlined that the party is targeting an increase of 400,000 progressive members from Zamfara within the next 17 days. He attributed Governor Lawal’s departure from the PDP to unresolved internal conflicts within the party. The decision to join the APC emerged after a stakeholders’ meeting, led by the State Deputy Governor, where the majority advised the governor to align with the APC to foster unity and drive development in the state.
In his remarks, the SSG highlighted the collective input and thorough evaluation that led to Governor Lawal’s decision, noting the necessity for elite consensus to address the state’s security issues. He announced the reopening of the APC membership e-registration and urged the state’s residents to participate actively to meet and exceed the 400,000-member target.
Nakwada concluded by affirming that all executive members and political appointees within the Zamfara government fully support Governor Lawal’s decision to join the APC.
