Abuja: Pastor Alex Ogundipe of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Daki-Biyu District in Kubwa, Abuja, says the cross where Jesus Christ was crucified at Calvary is a symbol of great exchange where death is exchanged for life. Ogundipe, the senior pastor of the church, stated this, while delivering a sermon titled: ‘The Redemptive Power of Mercy,’ in commemoration of the Easter celebration.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the cleric explained that the death of Christ on the cross was to atone for man’s sins and provided a second chance after Adam’s misdeed. He emphasized that Jesus died because of the sins of man and rose from the dead to reconnect humanity with God.
Ogundipe noted that historically, the cross symbolized shame, sorrow, and death, often indicating that someone had been sentenced to death. However, Jesus redefined it as a place of exchange, where the enmity between man and God ended, leading to man’s redemption and salvation. He asserted that Jesus’ death was meant for salvation.
The pastor further elaborated that Jesus’ resurrection vindicates his sinlessness and that his sacrifice was acceptable, holy, and righteous, completing all necessary processes for salvation. He stated that the resurrection signifies the fulfillment of all requirements for salvation and redemption.
Ogundipe urged Christians to avoid greed, lust, anger, and bitterness. He advised that to partake in Christ’s glory, believers should embrace the gospel, live in submission and obedience, serve as witnesses, uphold discipleship, and remain vigilant and prayerful in anticipation of Christ’s second coming.
