Abakaliki: The Ebonyi State Government has given approval for the construction of 65 housing units of three-bedroom bungalows for 65 widows in the state. This initiative follows the completion of the first phase of the Widows Housing Scheme by the wife of the Governor and aligns with Governor Francis Nwifuru’s vision anchored on the people’s charter of needs.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the State Executive Council has approved the commencement of all processes for awarding the construction of these housing units. The approved project is expected to benefit five widows per local government area and will be executed under the Community Charter of Needs (CCD).
The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebe, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the recent Executive Council meeting held at New Government House in Abakaliki, the state capital. Omebe further mentioned that the State Executive Council, after an exhaustive deliberation on the progress report of the Izzo/Amaeze Housing Project, set up a seven-member committee to ensure the completion of the housing project within two weeks.
Additionally, the Commissioner highlighted that regarding the supply and installation of a 1.5MW Independent Power Plant by the Ebonyi State Government, the Council resolved to invite the contractor to the next Executive Council meeting for further clarification. He also noted that in line with the Governor’s determination to provide wireless internet services in selected locations across the state, the Council directed that the already installed facilities be test-run to ensure quality and efficiency before the project’s final handover.
