New york: The Continental President of Commonwealth Business Women Africa (CBW-AFRICA), Mrs. Ngozi Oyewole, has urged developing countries to emulate the economic reforms and policies implemented by President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria. Oyewole made these remarks during her presentation at the US/Africa Trade and Business Network, Inc meeting, held on the sidelines of the 2025 United Nations General Assembly currently underway in New York City.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Oyewole emphasized that Nigeria stands at a pivotal moment, highlighting the necessity for industrialization, strengthened value chains, and deeper trade integration. She pointed out that with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), there is an opportunity to compete on a global scale while fostering regional collaboration. Oyewole praised the Nigerian Federal Government for its bold actions, notably the tax reviews, suspension of the four per cent FOB levy, and reforms aimed at reducing business costs.
She specifically acknowledged the contributions of Sen. John Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, and Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadir, Director-General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), for revitalizing the industrial sector. As Chair of the Sectoral Group on Wood and Wood Products, Oyewole attested to the tangible benefits of these reforms, urging other nations to adopt Nigeria’s model, which she described as practical, inclusive, and results-driven.
Oyewole also highlighted the critical role of women in trade and industry, noting that through CBW Africa’s efforts across more than 25 countries, women’s contributions as nurturers and builders are evident. She praised the determination and creativity of African women entrepreneurs.
Additionally, Oyewole lauded Mr. Gbenga Omotayo, Founder of the US Africa Trade and Business Network, for his visionary leadership and efforts in bridging opportunities between Africa and the world. She emphasized that the future of Africa’s trade and industrialization relies on harnessing human capital, empowering women, and establishing globally competitive value chains. Oyewole called for unity in pursuing these goals to transform today’s challenges into tomorrow’s opportunities.
