Benin city: The Edo Government has announced a postponement of the resumption of all public and private schools in the Edo Central Senatorial District due to growing security challenges in parts of the state.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the State’s Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, stated in a release that the reopening of schools, initially scheduled for Monday, January 12, for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic calendar, has been deferred to a later date, which will be announced to the public in due course.
Iyamu emphasized that the decision to postpone was necessary to address emerging concerns impacting the welfare of students. The aim is to resolve ‘exigencies’ to enhance the safety and well-being of children in the district. He called on parents, guardians, school owners, and administrators within the district to take note of this development and comply with the postponement accordingly.
