Post: Edo LG Polls: Youthful Osarobo Emerges APC Chairmanship Candidate


Abuja: Youthful Anthony Osarobo has emerged as the Chairmanship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ovia South-West for the upcoming Local Government Elections in Edo, scheduled for July 17. Osarobo, 30, secured the APC chairmanship ticket by garnering 3,020 votes during the primary election, which was conducted at the Iguobazuwa Community Town Hall.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, party officials described the process as peaceful and orderly, culminating in Osarobo being announced as the consensus candidate by Charity Amanyaevbo, the Head of the Chairmanship and Councillorship Election Committee and Commissioner for Youth Affairs. Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion, the Returning Officer, highlighted that the exercise reflected consensus and unity within the party.



Albert Eguaoje, the Spokesman for the Edo Independent Electoral Commission, who supervised the primary, affirmed the credibility of the exercise, noting the orderly behavior of attendees and the overwhelming support for the chosen aspirant.



Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa commended Governor Monday Okpebholo’s leadership for facilitating a hitch-free primary election. He emphasized the need for unity to ensure the party’s victory, acknowledging Osarobo as one of the youngest candidates and praising his commitment, reliability, and loyalty.



In his acceptance speech, Osarobo expressed gratitude to the party for their confidence in him and pledged to implement the SHINE Agenda of the state government at the council level if elected. He stated his intention to work in line with the leader’s vision to ensure grassroots development.



Nosakhare Edobor, the outgoing Chairman of the council, called on politicians to embrace sportsmanship and respect party supremacy. He encouraged the candidate to pursue strategies that would lead to more developmental strides in the area.
