Abuja: The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians to translate the values of mercy, justice, and compassion exemplified by Prophet Muhammad into concrete actions that address insecurity, economic hardship, and national unity. This is contained in a statement signed by CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, to mark Eid-el-Maulud.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okoh felicitated with Muslim faithful across the country and prayed for peace and blessings upon their families and communities. He stated that Eid-el-Maulud, which commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, provided an opportunity to reflect on mercy, justice, compassion for the poor and vulnerable, honesty, and peaceful coexistence.
Okoh emphasized the importance of these values in today’s context, urging Nigerians to care for one another, protect human dignity, and pursue peace despite differences being exploited for political or personal gain. He highlighted the difficulties faced by many Nigerians due to rising living costs and insecurity affecting homes and communities.
The CAN president called on the Federal Government and leaders at all levels to transition from merely making promises to taking visible actions that enhance security, provide economic relief, and prioritize the welfare of Nigerians. He stressed that leadership should be measured by tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, Okoh appealed to politicians to refrain from exploiting religion or ethnicity for political advantage, emphasizing the enduring bonds that hold Nigeria together. He urged Christians and Muslims to resist division by those seeking political gain from their differences and to collaborate in protecting communities and advocating for peace.
Archbishop Okoh expressed hope for Nigeria’s future, contingent upon action, responsible leadership, good citizenship, and justice. He prayed that Eid-el-Maulud would renew Nigerians’ commitment to these virtues and inspire the building of a nation where every citizen could live with dignity and hope. He extended wishes for a happy Eid-el-Maulud celebration to Muslim brothers and sisters.
