Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has declared that the era of abandoned projects in Nigeria has come to an end, emphasizing that his administration is committed to completing all projects it undertakes. Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the inauguration of the two main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja, Tinubu assured that every project initiated or inherited by his administration would be completed.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tinubu stated, “We don’t start projects to abandon them. The era of uncompleted projects in Nigeria is fading away. We finish what we start, and even finish the ones we did not start.” He underscored the promise of tangible hope and hard work, noting that the completion of such infrastructure projects paves the way for a brighter future by alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity within the capital city.
Tinubu articulated the significance of infrastructure as the foundation of economic growth, highlighting the role of
roads in unlocking the potential of cities, creating jobs, and facilitating daily life for various societal segments. The President noted that his administration inherited the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), which is being developed in phases, with significant milestones already achieved in previous years.
The President attributed the ongoing structural transformation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to focused and visionary leadership. He praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his team for their dedication and efficiency in reshaping the territory, reinforcing the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda of delivering timely and quality results for the Nigerian populace.
Minister Wike elaborated on the project’s timeline, mentioning its awarding by the FCT Administration in October 2025 and applauding the contractor for timely delivery. He also noted the importance of continuity in governance, as most completed projects in the FCT were initially started by previous administrations. Wike commended Tinubu
for his commitment to completing both inherited and new projects.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, hailed the OSEX project as a critical milestone in Abuja’s transformation. She praised Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, emphasizing that strategic investments in transportation infrastructure are translating into tangible benefits for citizens and supporting the broader modernization agenda of the FCT Administration.
