Addis ababa: Ethiopia says it has made significant progress in the application of artificial intelligence (AI), creating opportunities to compete at the global level, TV BRICS a NAN partner reports. Mohamed Abdi Ware, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), highlighted Ethiopia’s growing use of AI in key sectors.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ware said Ethiopia’s application of AI in agriculture, healthcare, education, and finance represented valuable experience that could serve as a model for other African countries. He noted that IGAD intends to establish a regional partnership to enable member states to draw on Ethiopia’s experience and expertise in AI.
Taye Girma, Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, expressed the country’s readiness to share its knowledge, experience, and professional expertise with other countries in the region. Girma mentioned that such exchanges could create new opportunities to strengthen digital connectivity among East African countries.
He added that greater cooperation could enable member states to pool their technological capabilities to address common challenges. The expansion of regional cooperation reflects a broader shift among countries in the Horn of Africa towards using technology, innovation, and knowledge sharing as strategic tools for development.
The collaboration could also position artificial intelligence as an emerging driver of regional integration and economic transformation.
