Post: Ex-Council Boss Gbenga Abiola Announces Bid for Agege Constituency I Assembly Seat

Lagos: Mr. Gbenga Abiola, the immediate past Vice Chairman of Agege LGA of Lagos State, declared his intention to contest the Agege Constituency I seat in the 2027 elections. Abiola, who is also a former Sole Administrator of the council, stated that he had been prepared to succeed Speaker Mudashiru Obasa should the six-term lawmaker decide not to recontest.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abiola made his declaration in Dopemu, emphasizing his loyalty to Obasa, whom he described as a benefactor. He pledged to run for the seat only if the Speaker steps aside in 2027. Abiola expressed his desire to continue the performances of Obasa, stating, “Obasa has a loyal and trustworthy son in me to replace him if he decides not to run again.”

He acknowledged the role of Obasa and divine intervention in his political journey, expressing readiness to serve if given the opportunity. The turnout at the declaration was significant, which Abiola interpreted as a demonstration of public support. He assured his constituents of his commitment to maintaining the developmental progress achieved under Obasa’s leadership.

Abiola highlighted his extensive experience, citing his previous roles as the youngest council boss, vice chairman, and secretary in Lagos. He mentioned his efforts through his foundation to support the community and reflected on the public approval indicated by the turnout at the event.

Commending Obasa for his developmental projects in Agege, Abiola advised against political violence as the APC primaries approach. He reiterated his commitment to aiding residents through his foundation, irrespective of the election outcome. He also encouraged his supporters to remain loyal to Obasa and adhere to party directives for the upcoming elections.

Abiola, who is also the National Coordinator of Tinubu Media Force, lauded President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, describing them as beneficial for the country. Dr. Jamiu Ademosu, Director-General of the Agbelebu Solidarity Forum, noted that the turnout at the declaration reflected trust in Abiola’s leadership and grassroots appeal, highlighting the diverse demographic support he enjoys.

Ademosu remarked on Abiola’s response to calls for higher service and assured continuity of development under his representation. Party leaders, such as Akeem Arisekola, Treasurer of APC ward B, commended Abiola’s humility and urged for support of his political ambition.
