Abeokuta: The pioneer Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr. Adewale Abolurin, has advocated for the transformation of the Civil Defence College of Security Management into an institution offering degree and postgraduate programs. This call for an upgrade was made during the retirement ceremony of Assistant Commandant-General (ACG) Iskil Makinde, the inaugural Provost of the Civil Defence College of Security Management in Abeokuta.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Abolurin expressed that the institution should evolve into a center of excellence on par with military and other specialized security training institutions. ‘We want to see this institution in the nearest future as a place of pride, where everyone can confidently say it meets the demands of the modern era,’ he stated. He praised Makinde’s educational journey from an HND holder to obtaining a doctorate, urging officers to pursue continuous education and professional development regardless of their entry qualifications.
Dr. Abolurin highlighted the importance of embracing continuous education, hard work, and professional development, using Makinde’s career progression as a model. He commended Makinde for his integrity and contributions to the development of the corps during his service of over three decades. Additionally, Dr. Abolurin called on officers to be proactive and professional in their duties, emphasizing that this approach is crucial for the corps to effectively fulfill its role and contribute to national security.
The ceremony also featured a welcome address by Assistant Commandant-General (ACG) Olushola Akibo, the Zonal Commander of Zone 1 Headquarters in Lagos. Akibo described Makinde as a distinguished officer, leader, mentor, and exemplary public servant, emphasizing his professionalism and dedication to the corps. He acknowledged Makinde’s positive influence on officers and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
Further commendations came from Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who praised Makinde’s dedication and commitment. He urged the retiring officer to continue serving as an ambassador for the corps in retirement. The Chief Imam of Ogbomosho land, Tolihat Yunus, also congratulated Makinde, recognizing him as an inspiration to younger officers and praying for his continued well-being.
ACG Niyi Akintelure, Provost of the Civil Defence College of Security Management, acknowledged Makinde’s role in promoting credibility and transparency within the corps. Makinde himself expressed gratitude for the support he received from the NSCDC management, family, and colleagues throughout his career. He emphasized his commitment to continue contributing to society and mentoring younger generations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony was attended by senior and retired NSCDC officers, traditional rulers, clerics, government officials, and other dignitaries. Among the attendees were the Alake of Egbaland, represented by the Chief Imam of Egbaland, and various Commandants from Ogun, Ondo, and Edo commands.
