Abuja: The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, emphasized that the most valuable legacy parents can pass on to their children is not material wealth but the enduring values of faith, integrity, and reverence for God.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this was articulated in a statement signed by Celestine Toruka, the Director of Media and Public Relations at the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), and shared with newsmen in Abuja. Archbishop Kaigama made these remarks during a Requiem Mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama, Abuja, in honor of the late Chief Ezinne Opara, the mother of Prof. John Kennedy Opara, a notable figure in the NCPC and the Chairman of CSS Group of Companies.
Late Opara passed away on May 7, 2026, at the age of 83. Archbishop Kaigama took the opportunity to urge leaders in various sectors to serve humanity with humility and remain aware of life’s transient nature. He highlighted how Christiana Opara’s life exemplified goodness and how her actions could inspire a more compassionate world.
The Archbishop also praised Prof. Opara’s contributions to the Archdiocese of Abuja and his significant roles under four Nigerian presidents. He commended Opara’s efforts in agricultural development, noting his leadership at CSS Global Integrated Farms.
In his tribute, Prof. Opara remembered his mother as a loving and deeply religious woman who was central to his and his siblings’ lives. He credited her with teaching him essential life skills and values, which have shaped his personal and professional life.
Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the current Executive Secretary of the NCPC, also spoke at the event, emphasizing his longstanding relationship with Prof. Opara and acknowledging Opara’s dedication to the commission’s foundational values.
The Requiem Mass was attended by numerous dignitaries, including political leaders, diplomats, and senior clergy. Notable attendees included Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, and Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria Michael Freeman, among others.
Late Chief Christiana Opara’s burial is scheduled for August 7, 2026, in Imo State’s Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area.
