Post: FCCPC Seals Life Camp Paradise Estate Offices Over Property Squabbles

Lagos: The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed off the offices of Life Camp Paradise Estate located in the Life Camp area of the Federal Capital Territory: Mr. Marvin Nadah, the Deputy Director of the Surveillance and Investigations Department at FCCPC, stated that the action was due to the estate company’s failure to comply with the Commission’s notice.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Nadah explained that the Commission had received multiple consumer complaints concerning real estate transactions, all directed at Paradise Estate Limited. The FCCPC had issued a notice to the company in February, instructing it to hand over properties paid for by consumers over the past three years. However, the company had yet to comply with this directive.

Nadah emphasized that the enforcement action, which involved sealing the offices, was in line with Section 150 of the FCCPA Act 2018. He expressed confidence in the lawfulness of the Commission’s actions and urged consumers to verify promises made by developers before entering into agreements.

In response to the sealing, Mr. Aloysius Ezenwa, Head of Legal at Life Camp Paradise Limited, acknowledged receiving a summons from the FCCPC following a petition from one of its subscribers. Ezenwa noted that the company had filed an appeal against the Commission’s decision at the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal.

Ezenwa explained that a complaint was filed by a subscriber dissatisfied with the company’s procedures. He stated that the transaction in question was governed by a contract of sale, and the company had responded to the summons by highlighting the relevant provisions of the contract. Ezenwa claimed that the directive from the FCCPC contradicted the contract of sale.

The News Agency of Nigeria also reported that staff members of the estate company were evacuated before the sealing took place.
