FCT: The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Health Secretariat has joined forces with the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to register vulnerable Nigerians for a special health programme called ‘Know your numbers, control them.’ Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), announced this collaboration during a medical outreach held in the Gosa community, FCT, organized by the NMA.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the initiative aims to educate Nigerians on how to manage their blood pressure and blood sugar levels, with a focus on preventing non-communicable diseases. The programme seeks to register 10 million vulnerable Nigerians, offering them free medication and health insurance. Dr. Fasawe highlighted the critical importance of taking health seriously, noting that unrecognized health issues could pose life-threatening risks, especially as many young Nigerians are succumbing to diseases like hypertension and diabetes.
Dr. Emeka Ayogu, NMA FCT Chairman, mention
ed that the medical outreach is part of the 2024 Physicians’ Week activities. He called for government support in building more hospitals, training health workers, and equipping existing medical facilities. Grace Anania, a recipient of the programme’s benefits, expressed gratitude to the NMA for the outreach and urged the government to provide ambulances in community healthcare centers to handle emergency cases efficiently.
