Akwa ibom: The Minister of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commissioned the 15.13km Ikot Esu-Otomo-Azumini Road and 1.53km internal roads in Ikot Udom, Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Speaking at the event, Governor Umo Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing people-centred projects regardless of political affiliations, describing governance as a continuum.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Governor Eno emphasized the importance of completing projects for the common good, irrespective of who initiated them. He also warned contractors against delays in other ongoing road projects, imposing a strict three-month deadline for delivery. The Governor expressed his determination to pursue any financial discrepancies up to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission if necessary.
The Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, remarked that the newly commissioned road would enhance the economic potential of the agrarian communities in Ika Local Government. By improving access to urban markets, the road is expected to significantly impact the lifestyle of local residents engaged in agriculture.
During the commissioning, Wike commended Governor Eno’s leadership and commitment to unity, highlighting the tangible development witnessed in Akwa Ibom State. He praised the Governor’s approach to project delivery without accumulating debt, considering it a significant leadership achievement.
The State Commissioner for Works, Prof Eno Ibanga, and Chairman of Ika Local Government Area, Utibe Nwoko, also voiced their approval of the project. Nwoko described the road as a vital link connecting farmers to markets, children to schools, and residents to healthcare and commerce.
Political leader Uwemedimo Nwoko and community representatives viewed the project as a symbol of inclusive governance, and contractors pledged their ongoing support for the state’s development initiatives. The ceremony was attended by political leaders, community members, and stakeholders, who hailed the road as a gateway to commerce and social integration in Akwa Ibom State.
