Post: FCT Poll: Wike Pledges Support for Pro-Tinubu Candidates

Abuja: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his intention to support only those candidates who back President Bola Tinubu’s reelection, regardless of their political affiliations, in the upcoming FCT area councils’ election set for February 21. Wike made this announcement during the 60th birthday celebration of Senator Sandy Onor, an event highlighting six decades of scholarship, leadership, and service.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike emphasized that he felt no need to apologize for his stance in supporting Tinubu. He assured that he would back any candidate who aligns with the President, while also ensuring that those opposing Tinubu do not gain victory in the election. In his address, Wike described Onor as a credible ally and a trustworthy friend.

The celebration featured comments from various dignitaries. Prof. Anthony Eyang provided a citation on Onor, outlining his journey from a Professor of History at the University of Calabar to his current political role in the Nigerian Senate and Cross River politics. Senator Philip Aduda, chairman of the planning committee, referred to the event as a testament to God’s faithfulness in Onor’s dual career as an academic and a politician.

Former Governor of Benue, Mr. Samuel Otom, praised Onor as a prepared leader, while Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), former Attorney General of the Federation, commended Onor’s courage and intelligence. Prof. Dave Imbua presented a Festschrift in Onor’s honor, highlighting his contributions to academia. The book was unveiled by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu on behalf of Wike and his associates, with a donation of N50 million.

In his remarks, Onor reflected on his life journey, emphasizing the importance of excellence and character while acknowledging the role of divine guidance. He expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and supporters for their unwavering support.
