Abuja: Some electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) expressed dissatisfaction with the services provided by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), urging the company to enhance its service delivery.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, consumers in Abuja have reported issues with inconsistent power supply, which has negatively impacted both businesses and households, particularly in recent weeks.
Mr. Joe Igbowe, a fashion designer based in Lugbe on Airport Road, highlighted the challenges posed by the poor electricity situation in his area, which has forced him to rely on a generator for his business operations. He noted that acquiring fuel for the generator is difficult, as many fuel stations are unwilling to sell in small quantities. He criticized AEDC’s load-shedding practices and pointed out the company’s quick disconnection of power for unpaid bills, urging them to focus on service improvement.
Similarly, Mr. John Okoduwa, a barber from Lugbe, noted that the area’s power supply has become erratic in recent weeks, in contrast to the previously stable supply. He emphasized the need for improved electricity supply to sustain their livelihoods, which depend heavily on reliable power.
Mrs. Angela Pam, a fashion designer residing at ACO Estate on Airport Road, shared that electricity in her area is available for only four to five hours daily, and sometimes not at all. She called for AEDC to enhance power distribution to facilitate effective business operations.
Mrs. Cynthia Osuji, a teacher from Kubwa, mentioned that the unreliable power supply has prevented her from stocking food items in her refrigerator. She urged AEDC to improve its services, stating that the current supply does not meet customer expectations.
Mr. Samuel Ozigbo, a lawyer also from Kubwa, added that AEDC should focus on infrastructure improvements to ensure better service delivery, as customers are paying for these services.
In response, AEDC appealed to customers for understanding amid the inconveniences caused by power supply disruptions. In a notice on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, AEDC attributed the outages to a technical fault affecting certain feeders. The company assured that its technical team is working diligently to restore power. Affected areas include S24 Gaduwa Injection Substation, S22 Apo Injection Substation S23, and others such as Kaura District, Gaduwa District, and various estates and quarters.
