Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has expressed his satisfaction with the progress in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, noting significant improvements 50 years after the city’s creation. During a special thanksgiving dinner celebrating the inauguration of 31 projects across the FCT in just 28 days, Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, praised Wike and his team for their dedication to making the nation’s capital inclusive and functional for all citizens.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, former FCT Minister and current Special Adviser to the President on General Duties, Aliyu Modibbo, commended Wike’s performance and expressed hope that he would continue as FCT minister in Tinubu’s potential second term. Modibbo, representing Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasized the importance of Wike’s ongoing projects and leadership.
Wike, reflecting on his tenure since August 2023, noted the initial challenges faced by civil servants and hig
hlighted the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission as a key achievement. He explained how this initiative has motivated workers and facilitated the inauguration of numerous projects. Wike credited the removal of FCT from the Treasury Single Account for enabling access to commercial bank funds, aiding project execution.
The minister also acknowledged the quality and timely delivery by contractors and pledged continued collaboration to provide high-quality services to residents. He remarked on the unprecedented nature of Tinubu’s contributions to the FCT, with most completed projects being previously abandoned or uninitiated by the current administration.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, lauded Wike’s efforts in transforming the FCT’s landscape, describing him as the best performing FCT minister so far. Abbas, represented by Majority Leader Prof Julius Ihonvbere, emphasized the significant changes witnessed in the nation’s capital under Wike’s leadership.
