Abuja: The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has announced the opening of four new countries for Technical Aid Corps (TAC) engagement, aiming to bridge educational and professional gaps across Africa. Dr. Yusuf Yakub, the Director General (D-G) of NTAC, revealed this development during a media parley commemorating his two years in office in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Yakub identified the countries as Grenada, Equatorial Guinea, South Sudan, and Zanzibar. He mentioned that beyond these four countries requesting volunteers, NTAC is also preparing additional nations for the TAC program. The D-G highlighted a new initiative introduced in the past two years to combat illegal migration by engaging young Nigerians who might otherwise attempt to travel through unauthorized means.
Yakub explained that NTAC aims to become a hub for exporting Nigeria’s manpower to countries in need, allowing skilled Nigerians to serve as salary earners abroad. “In the past two years, we have opened up TAC engagement in Grenada in the Southern Caribbean, and we have Equatorial Guinea, South Sudan, and Zanzibar. These are the new countries that we have opened up relationships with in the past two years,” he stated.
He emphasized the preparation underway to deploy volunteers to these countries and noted that they will not be included in NTAC’s radar until deployment occurs. Yakub also discussed an initiative to transform NTAC into a hub for exporting manpower not only for free but also for financial compensation, aligning with the agency’s operations and the soft power diplomacy of President Bola Tinubu.
