Abuja: The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) into a premier institution for specialised military and civilian capacity building. The Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, gave the assurance when he received the Governing Council of the University in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this is contained in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, by the Special Assistant on Media to the minister, Leah Katung-Babatunde. Musa assured the management of sustained strategic support, while emphasising that NAUB remained critical to equipping personnel with the technical and operational expertise required to address complex contemporary security challenges.
He also mentioned that the ministry would collaborate directly with the Armed Forces of Nigeria to fully utilise the 30 per cent admission quota allocated to military personnel to bridge specialised skill gaps across the national security landscape. “As the federal government pushes for a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the armed forces, ministry staff, and the general public to leverage the cutting-edge technological and academic solutions available at NAUB,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the central outcome of the high-level meeting was a joint commitment between the minister and the governing council to urgently address campus infrastructural needs. Key among these planned developments is the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management; a landmark project that will be the first of its kind in Africa.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of the institution, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, commended the minister for his leadership and strategic foresight, noting that his contributions continue to strengthen Nigeria’s defence architecture. Buratai expressed deep appreciation for the minister’s dedication to the armed forces and the nation, reassuring him of the university community’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research, and national service.
