Post: Film and Television as Catalysts for Cultural Exchange Between China and Nigeria.


Lagos: The Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, Mr. Yang Jianxing, emphasized the importance of film and television as essential tools for fostering deeper understanding between countries. He made these remarks at the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Chinese Film and Television Broadcast Month in Nigeria, organized by StarTimes Nigeria and hosted by the China Cultural Center in Nigeria.

According to Voice of Nigeria: Mr. Jianxing highlighted that Chinese film and television works aim to showcase the unique allure of Chinese culture and the achievements of contemporary China’s economic and social development. He noted that China and Nigeria share rich histories and vibrant cultures, underpinned by a longstanding friendship between their peoples. He expressed hope that through these cultural exchanges, Nigerian audiences would gain a deeper understanding of China and its people while appreciating the profound friendship between the two nations.

ts to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the recent meeting between the Presidents of China and Nigeria. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Art, Culture, Creative Economy and Tourism, Patricia Roberts, represented by Zainab Ali-Biu, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting cultural exchanges. She emphasized the role of the film and television industry in sharing stories, values, and perspectives across different backgrounds.

The Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Salihu Dembos, represented by Mr. Tunji Adepoju, pointed out that the event celebrates not only the rich cultural narratives of both regions but also the growing partnership nurturing knowledge and cultural exchange. He stressed the power of storytelling to build bridges and foster mutual respect, highlighting the NTA’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enrich the media landscape.

rk, expressed his hopes for deepening China-Nigeria cultural cooperation through the two-month program. He noted that the festival celebrates the deep-rooted friendship between China and Nigeria and is testament to the shared love for storytelling and appreciation for diverse cultures.

The film exhibition month, running from November to December, will feature approximately 35 Chinese films, TV series, and documentaries across various platforms, reflecting the emotions, dreams, and aspirations of the Chinese people.
