Abuja: Wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, on Sunday inaugurated the National Assembly Christian Fellowship Chapel, a 750-capacity edifice within the parliamentary complex. Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that the chapel stands as a symbol of accountability, reminding legislators that while they make laws, there will come a time to give account.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, urged Nigerians to look beyond religion and focus on quality leadership, as exemplified by President Bola Tinubu. He highlighted the need for citizens to prioritize leaders with the capacity and commitment to Nigeria’s prosperity and security.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, stated that the chapel demonstrated that public service and faith are not in conflict. He articulated that both are united in pursuing justice, unity, and peace for the country’s growth and stability, describing the chapel as a covenant in heaven for Nigeria’s development.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, praised the promoters of the project and the 10th Assembly for its completion. He called for prayers for all branches of government and emphasized the importance of unity, asserting that Nigeria can achieve greatness through collective resolve.
Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, encouraged Nigerians to love one another irrespective of creed or tribe. He urged lawmakers to prioritize decisions for national unity and stability, recalling that many have sacrificed to keep Nigeria united.
Speaker of the 8th Assembly, Yakubu Dogara, reflected on the project’s challenging beginnings in 2016 due to limited funds. He called for unity among worshipers, stating that the building would be meaningless without Christ and harmony among believers.
Delivering the sermon, Bishop Matthew Kukah of Sokoto Diocese urged legislators to embrace humility and seek wisdom in prayer. He emphasized that laws should benefit all citizens and advance national development, encouraging lawmakers to stand firm against wrongdoing regardless of party or religious affiliations.
President of the fellowship, Sen. Bono Yaroe, noted that the idea for the chapel began in the 7th Assembly due to limited space and time for worship.
