Lagos: Wife of Nigeria’s President, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed deep condolences over the death of former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who died on Tuesday night in Lagos. In a message she issued on Wednesday, the First Lady extolled the sterling qualities of the late Chief of Army Staff.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the First Lady stated, “It is with a heavy heart that I received the sad news of the demise of the Chief of Army Staff Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja. Throughout his career, the late Chief of Army Staff exemplified valor, patriotism, and unwavering dedication to the service of our dear country.” She extended her deepest condolences to his wife, Mrs. Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja, children, family, friends, colleagues, and associates, praying for comfort and strength during this difficult time.

ajia Nana Shettima, and the wife of the National Security Adviser, Hajia Zara Ribadu, they were received by the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs. Oghogho Musa. During the visit, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu comforted the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja, and the children, emphasizing that “only the Lord can determine when a man dies.”
The First Lady urged the family to be comforted by the good life and legacies the late General left behind, encouraging the children to remain focused and pursue the ideals their father lived for. Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday, November 5, after a period of illness at the age of 56. He served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff from June 2023 until his death.
