Lagos: Dr Mohammed Bulama, Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), has expressed gratitude for the public’s support and solidarity in the wake of the fire incident at its Lagos office. Bulama conveyed his appreciation after touring the building to assess the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, a fire broke out at the Radio Nigeria premises in Ikoyi, Lagos, on November 27 at around 5:30 pm. The blaze damaged several parts of the building before emergency services managed to extinguish it, with no casualties reported. Bulama acknowledged the widespread concern and offers of help, highlighting the Nigerian spirit of unity and compassion. He reassured the public that FRCN remains committed to its mission of serving the nation and will emerge stronger from this adversity.
The Director-General expressed his gratitude to God for sparing lives and containing the fire. He thanked the governor of Lagos state, the government, and the people of Lago
s for their solidarity and support. Bulama also extended his thanks to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, for his longstanding support and concern following the incident. He appreciated the efforts of Nigerians and government agencies in containing the fire, emphasizing their role in preventing further damage.
Bulama described the scene as heartbreaking, with extensive damage to the building and equipment. While a full investigation is pending, initial reports suggest that an explosion in a Metro FM studio, possibly triggered by an AC unit, caused the fire, resulting in significant structural damage.
He disclosed that the situation called for a swift and comprehensive restoration process, with an initial engineering assessment already conducted. Plans are underway to engage a trusted vendor to determine the full scope of repairs. The incident presents an opportunity to upgrade the Lagos Operations facility to the highest standards. With support from the Federal Government’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, there ar
e plans to invest in state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure.
Bulama assured that every effort would be made to upgrade the facility with cutting-edge technology, as much as resources permit, with the intention of transforming the station.
