The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fadama Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (FCT-CARES) Programme, said it has concluded plans to disburse grants to 6,020 famers in its fourth batch of disbursement.
Mr Lawan Geidam, the Mandate Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) said this on Tuesday in Gwagwalada, FCT.
Gaidam, represented by Mrs Grace Adailo, the Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat spoke at the inauguration of the 4th batch of FCT Fadama CARES pre-disbursement capacity training programme.
She said the FCT Fadama CARES had successfully disbursed grants to 7,383 individual beneficiaries from 109 Farmers community associations across the territory.
According to him, the results were verified by the Independent Verification Agents engaged by the World Bank during the first, second and the third rounds of verification.
He said the verifications carried out in December 2022, January 2023, July 2023 and February, 2024
had been fully reimbursed.
Gaidam said the FCTA had released additional resources to the Fadama CARES programme from the reimbursement received from the World Bank.
‘With the current release, the FCT Fadama CARES programme is expected to disburse to an additional 6,020 individual beneficiaries before the commencement of the fourth round of by the World Bank scheduled for October.
‘This will take our cumulative disbursement to 13,403 individual beneficiaries,’ he said.
He said the interventions to farmers in the FCT was part of efforts by the FCT Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat to improve the lots of rural farmers.
Gaidam said the idea was to increase agricultural productivity and ensure the attainment of food and nutritional security in the FCT.
Mr Usman Adangara, the FCT Fadama CARES Coordinator, said the training was designed to build the capacities of participants.
He said the focus of the training were group dynamics, book and record keeping, environmental management, procurement as w
ell as project monitoring and evaluation.
