Abuja: The Southern Political Progressives Amalgamation Forum (SPPAF) has urged the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to carefully consider his choice of running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the group, in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja and signed by Johnson Iheanacho, Eniafe Ayomide and Anga Fidelis, emphasized the importance of selecting a vice-presidential candidate who would be instrumental to the party’s electoral strategy and national appeal. The forum highlighted that the opposition coalition has generated expectations among Nigerians who are seeking an alternative political platform for the upcoming elections.
The statement further advised that the ADC should ensure that its presidential ticket reflects national unity and inclusiveness, aligning with the party’s objective of broadening its support base across the country. The SPPAF articulated the necessity for a running mate with the capability to complement the presidential candidate, bolster the party’s campaign, and inspire confidence among party members and supporters.
Moreover, the forum stressed the importance of a meticulous evaluation of all available options before finalizing the decision on the vice-presidential candidate. It urged the ADC leadership to prioritize merit, political acceptability, and the overarching interests of both the party and the nation. The forum expressed the belief that the opposition requires a widely acceptable ticket to attract support from diverse regions of the country in the 2027 elections.
The SPPAF reaffirmed its support for the ADC and expressed hope that the party’s decisions would fortify its campaign and enhance public confidence in its ability to offer a viable alternative platform for governance.
