Abuja: The Native, a cultural coalition, has declared its commitment to the welfare and development of children residing in care homes, promising ongoing support through monthly welfare initiatives and donations.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Jethro Annum, President of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), made this commitment during a visit to Riches Home for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Kurudu, Abuja. Annum led the delegation on behalf of Olalekan Smart, leader of The Native, in commemoration of one year since the passing of Smart’s mother, Mrs. Christiana Osunlalu.
Annum praised the resilience and talents of the children, despite their challenging circumstances. He emphasized the importance of extending love, care, and encouragement in remembrance of Osunlalu, highlighting The Native’s pledge to continue supporting the welfare of these children through consistent initiatives and donations.
He also noted the inadequacy of the current shelter at the home and shared plans to construct a new hall to better accommodate the children.
Rev. Emmanuel Alaje, co-founder of Riches Home for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, expressed appreciation for The Native’s initiative and highlighted the financial challenges faced by orphanages. He emphasized the need for government support, noting the absence of assistance from federal, state, or local levels.
During the visit, The Native’s delegation engaged with the children, donated essential food items, and conducted a prayer session in memory of Osunlalu.
