Post: Home Delivery Service Through Postal Service Expands to 19 Districts

Kathmandu: The home courier service launched by the government to deliver public services directly to citizens’ doorsteps is showing notable progress.

According to National News Agency Nepal, this service has successfully reached 19 districts, marking a significant step forward in the government’s 100-day action plan aimed at modernizing postal services and enhancing them into a public courier service.

In executing this plan, Dr. Bikram Timilsina, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, has been actively engaging in coordination and discussions with relevant agencies to address challenges and assess progress. Manamaya Bhattarai Pangeni, Director General of the Department of Postal Service, reported that since the inception of this initiative, 3,131 passports have been dispatched for home delivery, with 667 passports already reaching the homes of service recipients.

The initiative has significantly simplified service access for citizens, making the delivery process more convenient. Agreements have been established with 19 districts, including Kathmandu, Gulmi, Dadeldhura, Jhapa, Sindhupalchok, Kalikot, Makawanpur, Bajhang, Kaski, Morang, Dhankuta, and Baitadi, to facilitate these deliveries. “The expansion of the home delivery service is also progressing in other districts,” Pangeni added.

Furthermore, the delivery of various government services through postal services is accelerating. To date, 260 educational certificates have been delivered, and laboratory samples from 14 health centers have been transported in collaboration with the National Public Health Laboratory.

The postal system’s role has significantly expanded in transport services. The department reported that by 3:00 pm on Tuesday, 296,545 driving licenses had been dispatched to relevant transport offices, including those in Morang and Kaski. Additionally, in partnership with Nepal Telecom, plans are underway to launch a home delivery service for SIM cards.

The transportation of question papers, answer booklets, and certificates has commenced in cooperation with Mid-Western University, while discussions are ongoing with Nepal Open University for the delivery of educational certificates.

For systemic enhancement, a study committee has been established to link systems with the Department of Passports, and efforts are being made to integrate systems with the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO). The department, in collaboration with provincial directorates and district offices, is reviewing postal routes and upgrading the postal code in the Postal Internal Tracking System (PITS).
