Abuja: The House of Representatives, during its plenary session on Tuesday, adopted 26 reports on public petitions concerning allegations of unlawful dismissals, breaches of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), and various other issues. The adoption followed the presentation of the reports by Rep. Laori Kwamoti, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petition, in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the petitions were referred to the committee for investigation and recommendations by the House. Among the adopted reports was a petition by 530 disengaged staff members of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) against the authority, which involved allegations of refusal to implement approved payment of full benefits, 15 years of pension arrears, and the enrollment of eligible members into the defined pension scheme.
The House also addressed a report on a petition by Mrs. Nwosu Chinonyerem against the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for alleged unlawful dismissal. Another repor
t adopted concerned a petition by L/CPL Ordu Odiereke against the Nigerian Army for unlawful dismissal from service, alongside a petition by Lady Grace Ayoo against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for alleged career stagnation.
Additional reports included a petition by Funmi Adeogun and company on behalf of Olatone Abdulsalam Ventures Ltd. against the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and others for illegal ejection and destruction of property. Also adopted was a report on a petition by Kennedy C. Amos and Associates against Airtel Networks Ltd for an alleged fraudulent transaction involving the land of Mrs. Juliana Nwikanne in Bianu Town, Khana Local Government Area, Rivers.
The House adopted a report on a petition by Sure-Path Solicitors against DSP Uche Okeke and Inspector Romanus Ugwuanyi for the alleged torture and murder of Mr. Kingsley Agwuna, known as Temple, who died on September 8, 2024. Moreover, a report concerning Inspector Danladi Kwalpung’s petition against the Nig
erian Correctional Service (NCS) for non-compliance with a court order for his reinstatement was adopted.
Further reports included a petition by Wisdom and Grace on behalf of Mr. Anthony Onyeabor against Aso Savings and Loans PLC for alleged illegal and unjustified property concession. Additionally, a petition by Human Rights Radio and Television (Brekete Family) on behalf of eight senior staff of Biwater Nigeria Ltd for failure to pay pensions and redundancy allowances was adopted.
The House also adopted a report on a petition by Nsisan-Obari Royal Palace Alesa Council of Chiefs against Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited for alleged violation of PIA 2022. Other adopted petitions included one by City-Point Global Properties against the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and another by Advanced Coating Technology Ltd. against Precise Construction and Engineering Projects Ltd. for outstanding payments.
A petition by Mr. Bolaji Yunus, CEO of Bolaful Solution Ventures, against Access Bank PLC for alleged negl
igence was also adopted. In his ruling, Deputy Speaker Rep. Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session, confirmed that the House, through the Committee on Compliance, would ensure the implementation of all adopted recommendations.
