The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has partnered with a Voter Education Provider for training and capacity development ahead of the November 16th governorship election in Ondo State.
Addressing participants at the workshop, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, said the purpose is to increase voter education engagements towards ensuring that every eligible voter understands the importance of their vote, knows the processes involved, feels confident and safe to exercise their right.
Mrs Babalola, represented by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Prince Toye Oyeyemi, pleaded with participants to assist INEC by using their expertise and structures to combat misinformation, reduce voter apathy, and increase participation.
According to Mrs Babalola, when voters are well-informed, it is obvious that they would be empowered to make decisions that reflect their true preferences and interests.
Mrs Babalola emphasized that INEC intends to demysti
fy the electoral process, making it accessible and understandable to all, regardless of their educational background or social status.
Also speaking, an INEC Chief Administrative Officer from the Headquarters, Abuja, Mr Robinson Enkeanyanwu, said the training became imperative given the closeness of the Guber election in Ondo State and the need to ensure a credible, free, and fair election.
Mr Enkeanyanwu disclosed that participants are selected from various Civil Society Organizations, across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State and are expected to engage people in the council areas.
