Abuja: Gov. Usman Ododo of Kogi says President Bola Tinubu advised him never to negotiate with criminals, describing the policy as key to improving security in the state. Ododo disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The governor said he visited the President to appreciate him for the Federal Government’s support in tackling insecurity and the successful rescue of abducted students in Kogi and other parts of the country.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ododo expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his efforts in enhancing security in Kogi State. He emphasized that the President’s leadership approach is often misunderstood by those not close to him, highlighting that Tinubu has taken decisive actions against inherited security challenges. Ododo shared that upon assuming office, Tinubu firmly instructed him not to negotiate with criminals, as it would only empower them further.
The governor reported that the policy has produced positive outcomes, positioning Kogi as one of the safest states in the country. He stated that his administration does not entertain negotiations with criminals or facilitate ransom payments. Additionally, Ododo invited Nigerians to visit Kogi to evaluate the state’s infrastructure development, assuring transparency and progress in his administration’s performance.
