Abuja: The Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has called on the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to bolster institutional governance, procedural compliance, and operational efficiency. Speaking at a two-day capacity-building programme in Abuja, Sulaiman described the training as strategic in enhancing the commission’s operational capabilities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Sulaiman welcomed RMAFC Chairman Dr. Mohammed Shehu, commissioners, and Business and Rules Committee members to the event, underscoring RMAFC’s dedication to improving institutional governance and operational excellence. He highlighted RMAFC’s constitutional role in promoting transparency and sound fiscal governance across Nigeria, amid President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to enhance fiscal governance.
Sulaiman acknowledged Nigeria’s economic growth potential despite fiscal challenges such as rising debt levels and reliance on external revenue sources. He emphasized the importance of innovation in addressing fiscal vulnerabilities, enhancing revenue generation, and fostering sustainable economic growth.
The NILDS DG stressed that sustainable development hinges on internal stability, efficient operations, and robust governance structures. He noted the strategic role of the Business and Rules Committee in managing internal procedures and governance within the commission.
Sulaiman detailed that the training aimed to enhance participants’ capacity in governance, committee administration, and strategic leadership, while exploring records management, ethical leadership, and oversight mechanisms. He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would improve decision-making processes and institutional discipline in RMAFC.
He reiterated NILDS’s commitment to supporting governance institutions through research, policy advisory services, and capacity development programmes. Sulaiman thanked the participants for choosing NILDS as their development partner and reaffirmed the institute’s dedication to strengthening governance institutions.
Earlier, Mr. Madu Julure, Chairman of the RMAFC Business and Rules Committee, emphasized the importance of the programme in understanding legal and democratic principles. He noted that the training was crucial for enhancing the committee’s effectiveness and was approved by the commission’s chairman to ensure continuous learning and improved institutional performance.
