Minab: At least 40 people, including students, lost their lives and 48 others sustained injuries following Israeli strikes on a girls’ primary school in Minab, located in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province. This incident was reported by Iranian media on Saturday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Iranian broadcaster IRIB cited a provincial official stating that the school was targeted during the attacks earlier in the day. Further details regarding the strikes have not been disclosed at this time.
The strikes were part of a joint operation launched by the U.S. and Israel against Iran early Saturday. The operation was justified by the two countries as an effort to eliminate perceived ‘threats’ from the Iranian ‘regime.’ Video statements from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump accompanied the announcement, suggesting support for a change of government in Tehran.
In response, Iran condemned the strikes as a violation of its sovereignty and vowed to retaliate. Iranian forces have already launched counterattacks following the initial strikes.
These events unfold amidst ongoing mediation efforts by Oman between Washington and Tehran concerning Iran’s nuclear programme, with the latest discussions taking place in Geneva on Thursday.
