Abuja: A group of female journalists on Monday began a women-only media organisation, Mata Media, aimed at telling stories of women, by women, and for women.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this is contained in a statement by the organisation’s Managing Director, Fauziyya Tukur. “Mata Media, a pioneering women-only media organisation, is proud to announce its official launch as the first Hausa-language media outlet of its kind in Nigeria,” she said. Mata Media boasts a team of skilled women journalists passionate about promoting women’s empowerment, challenging stereotypes, and driving social change through quality journalism.
Tukur noted that the organisation’s goal is to create a safe space for women to share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas, and to inspire a new generation of women leaders. She added that the media outlet would be led by Tukur herself, a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in Hausa media, alongside Hafsat Bahara as Editor.
She further stated that Mata Media would feature a wide range of content, including news, features, profiles, and analysis centered around women’s issues and concerns. Tukur emphasized the organisation’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of women journalists by providing opportunities for young journalists as well as interns.
Currently, Mata Media is a digital-only organisation, with a presence on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, as well as a dedicated website.
