Kaduna: The Kaduna State Government has announced that the ongoing 36-kilometre Bagoma-Gagumi Road in Birnin Gwari is set to connect approximately 66 farming communities, significantly enhancing economic activities in the region. This announcement was made by the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Ahmed, during his recent inspection visit to the project site.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Baba-Ahmed highlighted the importance of Gov. Uba Sani’s rural infrastructure initiative, describing it as transformative. He emphasized that the new road would facilitate improved access to essential services such as markets, schools, and healthcare facilities for the local communities. This project is expected to surpass the previously inaugurated 35-kilometre Gadan Gayan-Gwaraji-Kujama Road, which was noted as the longest road project in the state in the last twenty years.
The Gadan Gayan-Gwaraji-Kujama Road, which traverses through Igabi, Kajuru, and Chikun Local Government Areas, features a 130-metre bridge over the Kaduna River and has already enhanced connectivity for several rural communities. The new Bagoma-Gagumi Road is anticipated to similarly bolster transportation of farm produce in Birnin Gwari, a major maize-producing zone in Nigeria, thereby spurring economic growth.
Baba-Ahmed stated that the road construction is part of the state government’s broader plan to develop about 1,345 kilometres of roads across 20 local government areas. The ambitious infrastructure programme has already seen the initiation of approximately 150 projects, with 66 completed to date.
The construction of the Bagoma-Gagumi Road is being executed by CGC Nigeria Ltd., a company recognized for its expertise in major infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, and water supply systems. Baba-Ahmed expressed confidence in the project’s completion by the end of the year, with the contractor indicating the possibility of an earlier delivery.
Wang Hongxi, the Northern Regional Manager of CGC Nigeria Ltd., confirmed that additional resources, both in terms of manpower and equipment, have been allocated to ensure the project proceeds swiftly and meets its deadlines. “We have mobilised more workers and are working round the clock to ensure the project is delivered on schedule,” Hongxi stated.
