Abuja: Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), just hours after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The duo made this declaration after being welcomed at the national Secretariat of the party by NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the two political figures called for national unity, youth empowerment, and an end to internal political crises. They emphasized that these calls are part of their efforts to reposition Nigeria for sustainable development. Kwankwaso praised the party’s leadership for its vision and commitment to national development, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to understand the party’s ideology, blueprint, and core values.
Kwankwaso highlighted the shared priorities between them and the NDC, particularly in education reform, youth and women empowerment. He stressed the importance of building a peaceful and united Ni
geria, suggesting that political platforms should not only be vehicles for power but also instruments for social development and inclusion. He encouraged Nigerians interested in contesting elections to register and participate in party processes, committing to the ideals of peace, unity, and progress.
In his address, Obi supported the emerging political movement, underscoring the urgency of addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges. He pointed out that it is unacceptable for more than half of the population to be unengaged in productive activities, urging stakeholders to end political infighting and focus on national development. Obi emphasized the need for a secure nation where citizens have access to education and families are free from poverty and hunger, redirecting energy towards nation-building and confronting economic hardships.
